The History of Wallaceburg Christian School: Over Six Decades of Faith, Education, and Community

Wallaceburg Christian School (WCS) has been a cornerstone of the Wallaceburg community and its surrounding areas for over 60 years. Established in 1961, WCS is an inter-denominational, JK-8 school located in Wallaceburg, Ontario, currently serving 139 students. Dedicated to providing a high-quality, Christ-centered education, WCS supports students from Wallaceburg, Dresden, Port Lambton, and beyond. From its humble beginnings, WCS has grown into a vibrant educational institution. The school is committed to partnering with families and supporters, aiming to be an integral part of the community where students discover God’s world, develop their gifts, and dedicate their lives to Christ’s service.

Foundational Years

Wallaceburg Christian School’s (WCS) story started in 1951, with families in Wallaceburg and Dresden envisioning an education that reflected their Christian faith. This collective dream materialized a decade later when WCS welcomed its first students in 1961 into a modest two-room schoolhouse. The early dedication of these families not only shaped WCS into a family-oriented institution but also fostered a tightly knit community culture. As the school quickly became a vital part of the community, it expanded to meet the increasing demand. By the early 1990s, WCS had grown to include six classrooms, mirroring its commitment to providing a broad, Christ-centered educational experience and accommodating its growing student body.

Community Involvement and Support

In 2013, WCS took a significant step to deepen its community involvement by opening the Re:find Charity Thrift Shoppe. Owned and operated by the school, Re:find serves dual purposes: raising funds for the school and supporting local organizations within Chatham-Kent. Through its mission and operations, Re:find embodies WCS’s commitment to being a visible, active support and blessing to the community. Since its inception, Re:find has moved locations twice, reflecting its success and growing contribution to the local community.

Recent Developments and Future Plans

The 2022-23 academic year marked a significant milestone for WCS with the completion of a new building plan. This included a new front entrance, board/staff room, administrative offices, new washrooms, and the transformation of the old washroom space into a brand-new library for students. Students were also thrilled with the installation of new outdoor play equipment in 2023, significantly enhancing their learning and play experiences. WCS is looking ahead with ambitious expansion plans. These include the addition of a full-size gymnasium, change rooms and additional classrooms to meet our population’s increased demands. We are also planning on some outdoor learning spaces. These enhancements are designed to better accommodate our growing community and enrich our school’s facilities. Through decades of faith, education, and community service, Wallaceburg Christian School stands as a testament to the vision of its founding families and the enduring support of its community. With a bright future ahead, WCS continues to dedicate itself to providing an environment where students can grow in their faith and academic pursuits, rooted in the values of Christ’s service.
